Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Safety & Security Department (SSD), is an armed, private, in-house security department. We are a mixed group of individuals, career security officers, current and former Law Enforcement Officers, and active and former military members. We are charged with protecting the life and property of the 174-year-old Jewish congregation, including a historic sanctuary and building, private schools, camps, a community service center, and a large event center soon to be opened.

Our department is on the front lines ensuring the safety of our community in all aspects ranging from human-made (e.g., active shooters, anti-Semitic acts) to natural risks (e.g., earthquakes, fire). We invest heavily in the professional development of our team and provide everything a Public Safety Officer (PSO) needs to be prepared for this task. Some of the courses include advanced in-house and third-party training of firearm tactics, defensive tactics, first-aid, trauma, and the latest intelligence of current events and potential threats. In addition, PSOs are promoted, given the opportunity to pursue a desired billet, and provided raises based on merit.
