Bailiff Jobs in North Carolina

A Bailiff is a law enforcement professional who plays a vital role in maintaining order and security within courtrooms. They typically work under the supervision of a judge and are responsible for enforcing courtroom rules, assisting judges, ensuring the right people are present in the courtroom, delivering documents, and often, physically restraining individuals if necessary. They also play a key role in maintaining order among the public attending court sessions and may escort prisoners to and from the courtroom.

For this role, important skills and certifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, though some states also require bailiffs to complete formal training programs. Some states also require bailiffs to be certified in Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Before becoming a bailiff, a person may have roles such as a police officer, security guard, or correctional officer, all roles that provide relevant experience in law enforcement, security, and dealing with individuals who may be aggressive or non-compliant.
