SUMMARY: Responsible for patrolling assigned areas in a police vehicle to ensure law and order is maintained. Respond to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations. Assists citizens, makes traffic stops for speeding and other traffic violations, those suspected of driving under the influence, drug trafficking and other violations. Writes citations and gives warnings; makes arrests; writes reports and may testify in court proceedings.

Greenwood is a well-respected law enforcement agency with lots of training and experience opportunities. Regularly, Officers receive recognition for their efforts and GPD is currently home to the 2022 Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police Officer of the Year. The community supports their first responders. Greenwood has a low call volume with ample time for proactive law enforcement activities with several major highways intersecting in town. Officers also have the opportunity to participate in community events such as National Night Out, Operation Santa Claus, and much more.
