Join the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) as a Special Police Sergeant! WMATA is actively seeking qualified candidates to fill immediate vacancies for the Special Police Sergeant position. In this crucial role, you will oversee the enforcement of security regulations and ensure the protection of designated properties at various WMATA locations across Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. As a Special Police Sergeant, you will supervise personnel on duty, conduct roll calls, and ensure that all security operations meet the highest standards. You will be responsible for managing special details at non-revenue stations, Metrobus facilities, rail yards, and revenue rail stations, while also addressing emergency situations and assisting with building evacuations as necessary. Key Responsibilities: Prepare duty rosters and ensure proper staffing Enter time/attendance Inspect Special Police Officers and security posts to maintain performance standards Manage operational logs and respond to daily reports/complaints Review, approve, and recommend corrective actions for Special Police Officer reports Provide recommendations for assignments, commendatory or disciplinary actions, and performance reviews Lead emergency responses within assigned areas, including building and area evacuations This position requires on-site work for 37.5 hours per week, with varying days during the week/weekend. Minimum Qualifications: Education High School diploma or possession of a general equivalency diploma (GED). Experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience in police or other security work. Certification/Licensure Possession of a valid motor vehicle permit issued from the jurisdiction of residence. Maintain a Special Police Commission issued by the Washington Metropolitan Police Department. Preferred Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience Medical Group: Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. Mission Essential Designation In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authoritys Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events. Job Summary: The Special Police Sergeant supervises the work of assigned Special Police Officers in the enforcement of the Authoritys security regulations and the protection of designated properties. The incumbent is responsible for special details at non-revenue stations, Metrobus facilities, rail yards and revenue rail stations. Essential Functions: Supervises the enforcement of the Authoritys security regulations and the protection of designated properties. Prepares duty rosters for personnel on duty and conducts roll calls as necessary. Inspects Special Police Officers and security posts to ensure that required standards of performance are maintained. Receives reports/complaints, dispatches Special Police as required, and maintains operational logs of shift activities that occur daily. Reviews reports of Special Police Officers for accuracy and completeness, approving/recommending corrective action, as required. Recommends assignments, commendatory /disciplinary actions; initiates performance reviews and counsels Special Police Officers. Responds to emergencies within assigned areas and assists in building/area evacuations.
