Purpose of Job
Perform general, manual labor in the maintenance, patrolling, and preservation of the City of Springfield park system.
Essential Job Duties
Education and Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. with some experience in maintenance and repair work; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the required knowledge and abilities.
Required Certifications/Licenses: Must possess a valid drivers license issued by the State of Tennessee. Must pass a physical examination based on the essential functions of the job given by the Citys designated physician.
Perform general, manual labor in the maintenance, patrolling, and preservation of the City of Springfield park system.
Essential Job Duties
- Patrols all park locations and areas to ensure park rules are being followed.
- Provides assistance to park patrons and provides information when needed.
- Opens and closes all parks at the specified times.
- Reports vandals and violators immediately to the Springfield Police Department.
- Performs general grounds and building cleaning including emptying garbage receptacles and replacing liners.
- Cleans and supplies all restrooms in the park system.
- Maintains dugout facilities by emptying garbage receptacles and sweeping out each dugout.
- Works special assignments or events at the parks as needed.
- Performs other related work as required.
- Performing manual labor for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
- Following proper safety procedures for each assignment to ensure completion without injury or damage.
- Keeping current on safety practices of custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals.
- Job-related equipment and tools including, but not limited to, broom, mop, mop bucket, cleaning and disinfecting chemicals.
- Automobile and/or truck with two-way radio.
- Knowledge of city personnel rules and regulations and departmental policies.
- Knowledge of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the maintenance of and upkeep of park facilities and grounds.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to use the necessary tools and equipment in performance of the required duties.
- Ability to drive and operate assigned city vehicle(s).
- Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to understand and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Ability to establish, communicate and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, city employees, and the general public.
- Ability to get in and out of city vehicle multiple times during shift.
- Employee will work both indoors and outdoors and will sit, stand, stoop, walk, lift light and heavy objects (more than 25 pounds).
- Employee will be exposed to electrical currents, environmental hazards, extreme temperatures, and limited lighting conditions.
- Employee will perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
